Air Jordan 3 (III)

Air Jordan 3: 1987–1988

Jordan 3 was perhaps the first unconventional Nike Air Jordan shoe, since it went out of the way in quite a few aspects. For instance, a “Jumpman” was featured on the tongue. In 1986, Michael Jordan earned a Slam Dunk Contest victory, which is the reason this silhouette was introduced. This Jumpman has been featured as a centre of interest in every Jordan shoe released ever since. Another new feature was the visible air unit. Finally, elephant print was featured on Jordan 3’s upper for the very first time. This helped in making a point that Jordan shoes are not only functional but are fashionable too. Jordan 3 is among the most famous Air Jordan sneakers.

Tinker Hatfield designed Jordan 3 and went on to design 13 other Jordans. Considering that Michael Jordan’s silhouette was on the shoe, Jordan III became a flagship pair of Jordan Brand.

Although the first retroed color of Jordan 3 that was released in 1994 was not as successful as the original, the retro colorways that were released in 2001 turned out to be a huge success. 4 re-retro colorways of Jordan 3 were released that year, which included three of the four original ones with a Jumpman on the back.

For 2014, Jordan brand has been treating their aficionados with a new line of Jordan 3 colorways. These colorways include the “5Lab3” with a black reflective look, which was recently released, and the “Wolf Grey” colorway.
